Pine dowel rods, marine plywood, willow, plaited fabric and ribbon wreaths, 2m x 2m.

Harvest Moon, Harvest Home was a participatory sculpture commissioned for Croydon’s Walnut Festival in October 2026, that referenced the circular nature of the seasons as the moon turns to Autumn and Harvest.

In Scotland, England and Wales, people would historically gather together bounty from the crops harvested and make a celebratory meal in someone’s home. They would invite neighbours and friends, and play music and dance. This celebration to mark the end of harvest and the change of the seasons together was called, ‘Harvest Home’.

During the Walnut Festival, participants could select multicultural fabrics from a selection of coloured bins to plaited a circular wreath to attach to the sculpture, take it home or even wear. Throughout the weekend, the sculpture grew as people worked together to make plaits and tie them together in a wreath with a ribbon.
